Anti-Bullying Day

I think we've all been affected by bullying in one way or another.

One of my greatest regrets is not standing up for myself in a bullied situation. And we're not talking when I was a little kid, either. I don't mean by being physical. I would never! I mean by being confident enough in myself to have set that individual straight and stood up for what I believe in. I will always hold that regret. But I've learned from it. I now have that confidence I then lacked and have since surrounded myself with people who respect me for that.

That being said, I thought I'd share a bit of the conversation my Nonna and I had today, in light of Anti-Bullying Day.

Nonna Takes on Katy Perry

Gearing up for the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards this Sunday, all week long KOOL MORNINGS were playing Grannies for Grammys. You guess the Grammy-nominated song, sung by our resident Senior Citizen and you'd win a Grammy-nomminated Prize Pack!

Today was my Nonna's turn to shine.

Forget Katy Perry, Nonna's your teenage dream! Female vocalist of the year. Hands down.

We'll get 'em next year, Nonna.

Just like Oprah, I have a favorite thing, too!

And that's NEW LIBRARY BOOK DAY. Huge deal, which is why I've used capitals and colored the text red. There are few things better in this life than cracking open a new book, especially when it's from the library! The way it smells? Thinking of all the people who enjoyed the book before you? Yes and yes, they're both good. Also, just the idea of going to an actual library, talking to an actual librarian and picking their brain over which one to borrow, and being able to bring an actual book home. None of that electronic book stuff. Pfft.

And today's bonus with my current read? It's a LARGE PRINT EDITION. Which means instead of having maybe 300 pages, it has 600 because the text is SO BIG. Part of me feels like I'm back in elementary school, reading large-texted books. The other part of me feels kind of scholarly. Ya that's right. I'm reading a 900 page book. No big deal.

What are YOU reading?

Grannies for Grammys

Grannies for Grammies all week long with KOOL MORNINGS.

Identify the song, sung by a different Grannie, and you’ll win a Grammy Nominated Prize Pack!

This is my Nonna, warming up her vocal chords, getting ready to “rock out”.

The "Cone of Shame"

Do you like that title? Funny, isn't it??

OK, I confess, I heard the term from some of our Facebook Friends, so I stole it. But it's true. I think he really does feel shame.

On Friday my dog, Charlie, had to go in for ear surgery. And since then, he's rockin' a couple extra accessories; including an all-around-the-head bandage that's taping his one ear up, and the dreaded cone.

There was no laughing at it in the first couple days. He already feels self-conscious enough. I didn’t want to make it worse and laugh at him. So I stifled my giggles and went on as if nothing were different.

But as Sunday rolled around, and he was in higher spirits and feeling better, I let a laugh go. I'm not a monster. You would have laughed, too. He couldn't get through my bedroom doorway because the cone kept getting him stuck. It took about 4 attempts. And that’s when I broke down and finally laughed.
